Pre-releases

Arborist will look for updates automatically and show a button in the bottom status bar when a new version is available. By default it will look for main releases. But if you want, you can opt-in to getting beta builds to use the latest features of the app.

Hopping on the beta train

To look for beta builds, click on the Arborist menu and hold the option key. You’ll notice the menu item to check for updates now says “Switch to Beta Updates”. Select that option and you’ll get an alert to confirm, which then will tell the app to look in the beta channel.

Hopping off the beta train

You can reverse course and go back to looking for stable releases by doing this same thing: hold down the option key and open the Arborist menu. The menu item will offer to switch back to stable releases.

A note about hopping off

When you switch back to stable from the beta versions, Arborist will not offer to back down to the current stable version. Rather you won’t get any more beta builds and the next one you’ll be offered is the release following your beta version. Don’t be alarmed when you’re not offered a new version to upgrade to when leaving the beta train.

Reverting to the official release

If you want to go back to the newest released version of Arborist, follow these steps:

  1. Delete the beta version by moving it to the trash

  2. Download the newest release by visiting https://taphouse.io/arborist

  3. Launch the app – disregard any app update prompt – and follow the directions above to hop off the beta train

Once you do this then you won’t be offered the beta versions of Arborist any longer.
