Arborist is a native Mac app that makes Git worktrees easy. From one window, developers can create and remove worktrees, run saved commands and the tasks their project already defines, open editors and terminals in the selected worktree, see the open GitHub pull request or GitLab merge request for a branch, and return to Claude Code, Codex and GitHub Copilot conversations that happened there. Arborist uses the developer’s normal shell environment, works with Grove configuration, and keeps conversation discovery on the Mac. It requires macOS 15 or later and includes a 14-day trial, followed by a one-time $39 USD license that covers version 1 updates on every Mac using the same iCloud account, plus applicable taxes.

The full story

Git worktrees let developers work on several branches at once, each in its own folder, but keeping the surrounding tools organized takes additional effort. Editors, terminals, and AI conversations can remain open long after a developer has moved on to another task. Arborist brings those work contexts into one Mac app.

Developers can import a repository and its worktrees, create new worktrees from a new or existing branch, and open tools in the selected folder. Saved commands are available across that repository’s worktrees, and Arborist also finds tasks defined in Make, mise, npm and just. Everything runs using the developer’s shell environment, and a Dock badge shows running jobs and links to any that failed.

Arborist associates Claude Code, Codex and GitHub Copilot conversations with the worktrees where they occurred. Developers can review the chat history for a worktree and reopen a previous conversation in their preferred terminal. Conversation discovery happens locally on the Mac.

After signing in to GitHub or GitLab, Arborist shows the open pull request or merge request for the selected branch, with a link to it. Teams that use Grove get their branch prefix and setup commands applied when a new worktree is created.

Arborist is built by Jared Sorge, an independent Apple-platform developer in the Seattle area. It is distributed directly through Taphouse Software with a 14-day free trial and a one-time $39 USD license covering version 1 updates on all of a developer’s Macs.
